Southern Rural Water is proud to be the lifeblood of the agricultural economy of southern Victoria. With assets valued at $1.4 billion, their irrigation districts deliver water from the catchment to the farm gate. As regulators of surface and groundwater, they provide fair, equitable and sustainable access to water resources. 

The SRW website redevelopment is part of a broader body of work Bliss Digital is engaged by Southern Rural Water to manage, including the management of the mySRW site, Waterbid auction tool and managed hosting on AWS.

For the redevelopment of the www.srw.com.au project, we were involved in user-testing, UX-UI design, site development using Drupal 9, full data migration from WordPress to Drupal and deployment of the site onto Amazon Web Services.

The website is a great example of modern design and usability, catering to SRW’s diverse audience groups. Some complex features include:

• Allowing customers to interact with their account, buy and sell water, and check storage levels across SRW’s 7 reservoirs live
• Live API integration to allow users to check water allocation and allocation history.
• Modern user-friendly website design, displaying information for recreational uses of SRW’s facilities and promoting the environmental initiatives run by SRW, including farming modernisation practices.

One of the key challenges of the project was migrating a significant amount of data and documents from WordPress to Drupal 9. Our team was able to streamline the process by writing custom bulk export/import scripts.

The newly redesigned website was successfully launched in July 2022. Using an agile methodology, we delivered the project on time and within budget. In addition, to providing SRW with ongoing support, our team has been rewarded with a new project that involves streamlining services and payments on their customer portal.
